The Alamoosook Lakeside Inn is proud to be recognized by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection as an Environmental Leader in the Hospitality Sector.

The Inn’s location on the shores of Alamoosook Lake let’s our guests enjoy nature at it’s best. We have crystal clear water, beautiful native pine trees and an astonishing array of wildlife. Since we have no light pollution you can see more stars than you ever thought existed. Because we so value the natural assets of this area, the management and staff of the Inn are committed to minimizing our impact on the environment.

Our environmental leadership program includes:

Pollution Prevention

      Purchasing in bulk to reduce packaging
      Utilizing our garden and local producers for herbs, fruits and vegetables
      Avoiding the use of pesticides in lawn and garden care
      Using non-toxic cleaning products in our guest rooms and kitchen
      Using low emission paints

Energy Conservation

      Utilizing compact florescent light bulbs
      Incorporating the use of motion sensing lights
      Placing certain lights on timers
      Selecting Energy Star appliances when purchasing new equipment
      Encouraging our guests to turn off lights and lower thermostats
      when not needed

Water Conservation

Offering our guests the choice of daily towel exchange or reuse of their towels
Using low-flow shower heads

Recycling all of the following:

       Cans and Bottles Newspapers
       Office paper Magazines
       Cardboard

Environmental Outreach

       Helping each guest learn about our local environment
      Actively involving guests in our environmental program by offering choices
       Encouraging our staff to participate in local conservation efforts.
