Wings Waves and Wood

Date:

May 15th  - 17th

Location:

Stonington, Maine

Description:

Enjoy the early spring migration with guided walks, presentations, eagle nest-watching with scopes, boat trips to see puffins and pelagics, kayak excursions into quiet, protected coves. Galleries and studios all over the island will be open with new work and demonstrations, starting with a gallery reception Friday evening. Take in a chowder supper with all local foods on Sat, followed by a presentation on Birding By Ear by Maine Birding Trail founder, Bob Duchesne.

Lupine Festival

Scottish Tattoo

Date:

9th Annual Deer Isle Jazz Festival

Stonington Opera House, Stonington, Maine

Description:

The 9th annual Deer Isle Jazz Festival will present three full jazz concerts, along with related films, panels, and other contextual events. Past headliners have included Randy Weston, Jason Moran, Dewey Redman, Fred Hersch, Luciana Souza, Arturo O'Farrill, and New Orleans' Own Hot 8 Brass Band.

Bucksport Bay Festival

AUGUST

Shakespeare at Fort Knox

Date:

August 1st and 2nd   6:30 PM

Location:

Fort Knox

Description:

Saturday, August 1, Complete Works of Shakespeare, and Sunday, August 2, Richard III, performed by Ten Bucks Theatre Troupe. Ticket Prices- $10 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under, per performance. Two night combination tickets are available for $15 for adults and $7.50 for children. Advanced tickets may be purchased at the Fort Knox gift shop

Archaeological Field School  at Fort Knox

Date:

August  3rd – 7th

Location:

Fort Knox

Description:

The field school will focus on a foundation of one of the "out" buildings of unknown use present during the construction phase of Fort Knox. The field school will offer students hands-on excavation techniques accompanied by classroom sessions that will include an introduction to historical archeology, evolution of U.S. Seacoast defenses and the construction and history of Fort Knox. Minimum age 16. Students must make their own arrangements for room and board.

Pirate Festival

Date:

August  8th  10 AM – 3 PM

Location:

Fort Knox

Description:

Join the professional Pirates of the Dark Rose for a day of swashbuckling sword fights, duels, cannon fire and pirate ship attack. The pirate ship "Must Roos" will let loose cannon fire on the Fort as she sails the waters of the Penobscot River, in search of booty. The festival will feature a treasure hunt, pirate parade (all are encouraged to attend dressed in your best pirate attire), best dressed and most authentic sounding pirate contests. Regular Fort admission and a $3 per person event donation requested, because pirates love their gold!

Bluegrass Festival

Description:

Anna Mae Mitchell & Rising Tide comes to Fort Knox, performing lyric tunes that they perform from New England to Nashville. Based out of Winterport, Maine, and drawing upon a vast & varied musical experiences and influences., AMM&RT produces a sound that is refreshingly unique - described as "bluegrass - with a shot of estrogen!"  $5/person

American Folk Festival

Blue Hill Fair

Date:

Blue Hill Fair Grounds

Description:

This is a "Down to Earth" Country Fair always scheduled Labor Day Weekend. The Blue Hill Fair showcases the best of Maine Agriculture, while providing carnival thrills, a great selection of food and displays, and major entertainment (past headliners include Faith Hill, Charlie Daniels, 38 Special, and Diamond Rio).

OCTOBER
Fright at the Fort

Date:

October 23rd   & 24th ,  30th and 31st 

Location:

Fort Knox, Prospect

Description:

Probably Maine’s largest Halloween event . Visitors are led through the dark passageways of Fort Knox where indescribable things lurk in the shadows, creating screams of fright. Admission is $5 per person.
